Determining Marijuana Use in the Age of Legalization
March 31, 2019 Marijuana legalization presents new issues for the health professional in assessing use patterns. The days of dubious products from illegal markets are disappearing. With lab quality marijuana, driven by a medical-use focus secondary to a recreational focus, dosing is becoming more measurable and understandable. At the same time, legal markets are complicating the matter as marijuana is now available in many forms, from flowers to concentrates to edibles to infusions to pre-measured vape pens to transdermal patches to suppositories. There are more ways to get THC into your system than ever before. Dispensaries offer no recommendations for use other than "start low, go slow" citing that dosing (basically, how much THC you put into your system in what form you consume it at one time) is determined individually by trial and error. In this book, Scott Graham presents a consistent method for calculating and measuring "servings" across multiple products. It includes a link to a downloadable PDF form to help health professionals gather critical information to track and assess use. An essay addressing counselor bias toward legal marijuana and a curated bibliography round out the text. |
Now what? After Your Vipassana Course Is Over
May 16, 2019 On Day 10 of a Vipassana Course, when “the vow of silence is over” and “noble chatting” begins, a common topic amongst older students is how to maintain a daily practice. And on Day 11, during the final discourse when Goenka states you should have strong addithana (determination) to sit an hour in the morning (plus 15 minutes Metta) and an hour in the evening (plus 15 minutes of Metta) for one year, the exasperation of the new students finishing their first course is palpable. It is hard to develop a daily practice. Life happens. And it is easy – very easy -- to stop a habit, no matter how well cemented it is in your life. Scott Graham has been practicing Vipassana meditation since 1996 and has used many strategies to support a daily practice in that time. As a life coach, Scott helps clients stay focused and accountable on the actions, strategies and habits that align with their goals. Merging tools and strategies as a life coach with his own experience, Scott presents a series of strategies to help “old students” maintain their vipassana practice and strengthen their meditation “habit.” May all beings be happy. |
Androphile Pride
January 17, 2021 Both the gay and androphile subcultures present strong dogmatic prescriptions of what it means to be a man who is sexually attracted to other men. Rejecting the rigid views of both the Gay (LGBTQIA+) Community and the Androphilia Movement, "Androphile Pride" presents another perspective for men seeking to figure out who they are in the light of their sexual orientation and the pressures of conformity from LGBTQIA+ leaders who diagnose you with internalized homophobia if you question any part of their social/political agenda. Furthermore, rejecting the propaganda put forth by these self-appointed LGBTQIA+ prophets does not mean that men who are sexually attracted to other men have to follow in blind lockstep with those views proposed by the originators of the Androphilia Movement. After boldly examining the agendas of both the LGBTQIA+and Androphilia Movements, Graham proposes what he calls, the true androphile alternative. The true androphile is not bound by the propaganda you are being fed by these groups. "Androphile Pride" provides an alternative world view, then guides the reader through a process of creation and integration. Actively engage with the content and you will build a strong sense of self that does not hinge on following every single view espoused by supposed LGBTQIA+ leaders, the supposed Androphilia leaders, nor anyone else. A strong man doesn't accept what others tell him to believe. He finds his own path, guided by his own values. |

Come As You Are: Meditation & Grief
June 22, 2021 G. Scott Graham first started practicing vipassana meditation in 1996.In addition to his daily practice, Scott joined 10-day courses twice each year, whenever possible, alternating between sitting and serving.Scott joined a course on December 11, 2019.On the early hours of Sunday, December 22, 2019, the day Scott's course ended, his husband of 31 years, Brian Stephens, burned to death in a horrific automobile accident. Two months later, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world essentially shut down.In this book, Scott shares his successes, struggles, insights, and shifts from more than a year of grieving-in-isolation. A year where ānāpāna-sati, vipassanā-bhāvanā, and most importantly, mettā-bhāvanā became his most important allies. Most of the people who initially provided support to Scott moved on, as they often do, from those who are grieving. More than an inspirational memoir, "Come As You Are" provides pragmatic guidance for those who are actively experiencing loss and grief. The reader will find techniques, strategies, and resources. Scott has also chosen to include a month from his personal diary, raw and unedited. An often emotional, heart-wrenching journal where he explored his grief, Scott's intention is to validate the experiences of others who are grieving and to empower them to integrate grief and carry it forward in their life.May all beings be happy. May all beings live with ease. May all beings be at peace. |
